SCORE News

SCORE Chairman Gregory Nelson

The Naples/Collier SCORE has a new Chairman:
Gregory Nelson has been a member of SCORE since 2000 when he joined the chapter at the request of then Chairman Bill Adams. Bill was a neighbor of Greg's and asked him to join to assist in the Technology area. Greg has most recently served SCORE in the capacity of Vice Chairman as well as Assistant District Director for Southwest Florida (he will continue in this capacity as well).

The Chapter wishes to take this opportunity to recognize and thank past Chairman Ekkehard Grampp for his many contributions to the chapter. Thank you Ekkehard! And welcome Greg!

Florida SCORE ranks 2nd in Nation:
A recent report states that SCORE, in the state of Florida provided counseling and training to more than 11,300 Florida entrepreneurs during the first four months of fiscal year 2007 (Oct. 1, 2006-January 31, 2007), an increase of 29.2 percent over the first four months of fiscal year 2006. This program ranking places Florida SCORE second in the nation, behind California, according to the national SCORE office located in Washington DC.

National Volunteer Week and Small Business Week:
April 15-21 is National Volunteer Week. National Volunteer Week was created in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. And every year since that time, each U.S. President, along with many governors, mayors and other elected officials, has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week.

April 23-27 is National Small Business Week, created to recognize outstanding small business owners for their contributions to the nation’s economy and for their personal achievements during small business week. Since 1963, every President has declared National Small Business Week to formally recognize the important role of America’s small business community.
