You've
always wanted to write a book, but were either discouraged
by the monumental task of finding a publisher or simply
did not know where to start. There are several types
of ways to publish a book.
Royalty
publishers (the historically traditional method of publishing) pay
you royalties on sales (and often with advances), but
in
return own
the
rights
to
the book. Royalty publishers decide whether to accept
your work or not.
Equity
publishers help with editing, distribution and marketing (for
a fixed fee), while allowing you to retain the rights
to
the
book as
well
as retain
all profits from
direct sales. An example of an equity publisher is www.expertpublishinginc.com
Self
publishers allow a very quick avenue to market and allow the
writer to retain the rights and set their own pricing. Print on demand
is
often an option in this market. Examples of self publishers
are www.lulu.com,
www.iuniverse.com,
http://publishing.booklocker.com and
www.trafford.com.
E-Book
publishing is an inexpensive alternative to bound
books. It is the distribution of your book in an electronic
format, such as in an Adobe PDF for reading on a computer
or a PDA or even a book reader. See http://publishing.booklocker.com as
an example,
or read an article by Shelley Lowery on self publishing
an e-book called Ebooks

If you use a traditional publisher, you can still take
advantage of the niche market of
electronic publishing. See www.ebooks.com for
more details.
